Crisis support for mental health

WHAT IS A MENTAL HEALTH CRISIS?

A mental health crisis is when you feel like your at breaking point and you need urgent help or support right now. You might feel overwhelmed with your thoughts and feelings and unable to see a way forward. You may have thoughts of harming your self (self harm) or have some thoughts about suicide that you may find distressing. 

In terms of your Mental Health, you might be dealing with Grief or Bereavement, Depression and low mood, Anxiety and panic attacks, Stress and workplace stress, low Self confidence or low Self-Esteem, Addiction and substance misuse, Domestic Abuse (which includes physical, emotional, financial and sexual abuse), Money Problems and the cost of living crisis, Exam Stress and pressures at school or college or maybe you don’t know why you feel this way but you feel like you need to get some urgent support for your mental health.

No matter what your reasons are for seeking support, no matter what you’re going through or what has caused you to feel this way, its important to take care of yourself and to know that help and support for your mental health is available. 

GOING TO HOSPITAL (A&E)

If you are feeling suicidal or feel your life is at risk, you need to access an emergency service and get help right now.

Accident & Emergency (A&E) departments help people with serious and life-threatening medical emergencies, which includes helping people experiencing a mental health crisis.

Local A&E departments are open 24 hours a day and anyone can visit them free of charge. To get help urgently you can either call 999 or visit your local hospital and tell them that you need urgent mental health crisis support. 

They will get you booked in and ensure that you get the right level of support for your mental health.  

HELPLINES AND LISTENING SERVICES

There are various helplines available that offer a free of charge listening service, where trained professionals will speak to you via phone, text, email or webchat. They will listen to you without judgement and can help you to make sense of what you are feeling. 

Samaritans – To talk about anything that is upsetting you, 24 hours a day and the service is FREE. Call 116-123.

Shout – is a FREE texting service available 24 hours – text “SHOUT” to 85258. 

National Suicide Prevention Helpline UK – is a FREE service for people who are experiencing thoughts of suicide. Call the helpline on 0800 689 5652.

Unfortunately, I don’t offer a 24/7 crisis service, however if you are struggling with your mental health and you don’t feel that you are at crisis stage, but you feel that things are starting to become heavy and overwhelming for you, please feel free to get in touch with me and we can have a chat about what’s been going on for you. 

I offer a FREE telephone consultation so that we can discuss your needs and find out what support would be best for you. We will also discuss what’s brought you to counselling so that we can ensure that I am the right person to support you and that my skills and experience match your needs for counselling. Ultimately, it’s about making sure that you are getting you are getting the correct support with your mental health and if I feel that you require a type of counselling that I don’t currently offer, I will make the necessary referral or point you in the right direction so that you can be supported through your mental health journey.

I also offer a concession rate for people who might be struggling with finances, or on a low income, students and OAP’s. So please let me know if you would like to discuss this at our appointment and we can make time to see what’s available.
